Rumour: The Far Cry Series May Finally Be Switching Things Up in Next Two Games 1

Ubisoft's open world shooter series, Far Cry, has stayed in more or less the same place since the immensely successful Far Cry 3 launched back in 2012. According to a new report, though, it seems the next couple of games will try something different at last.

Insider Gaming claims that there are currently two Far Cry titles in development — one presumably named Far Cry 7 (codenamed Blackbird), and another codenamed Maverick.

According to this new report, both games have shifted from the Dunia engine to Snowdrop, with development being led by Ubisoft Montreal.

Blackbird is apparently the next mainline game, and it's changing the typical Far Cry formula by giving the player a time limit. The report claims the player must rescue their kidnapped family from a conspiracy cult, and they have 24 real life hours (72 in-game hours) to do so.

The other game, Maverick, is reportedly an extraction survival shooter that takes place in the Alaskan wilderness, in which players will have to battle each other as well as the elements and wildlife to survive.

On top of these interesting concepts, the movement system in both games has apparently been overhauled, with more movement options at your disposal. It's said that the two games share some gameplay systems because they both splintered off from a single project.

Whether this report is accurate remains to be seen, but if it is, we're all for the Far Cry series shaking things up. While new settings and additional mechanics have been keeping the series going, this sounds like it's an effort to take a risk on some new ideas — if true.
